Having spent our last summer holidays in Gran Canaria, this year we decided to try Fuerteventura, also in the Canary Islands.
Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort (http://www.sheratonfuerteventura.com/) was our choice for our stay. The hotel is located in Caleta de Fuste, a 15 minutes and 15 Euros ride by taxi from the airport, very close to a small shopping center (Centro Comercial Atlántico) with shops, a supermarket, a movie theatre and a couple of restaurants offering fast food. For more elaborated food, you need to take a nice walk by the sea for about 10 to 20 minutes to the area of El Castillo in Caleta the Fuste, which is full of restaurants.

Check-in
Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by two very polite Guest Relations representatives and offered cava (champagne) and juice for the kids. Check in process was efficient and we were provided with information about the hotel, its facilities and restaurants. We arrived a bit early so the room was not ready. But after exploring the hotel and having lunch, we returned to the reception 1 hour before check-in time and our room was ready then.

Room
We booked a Family Premium Room, which was perfect for two adults and two kids. The room is really spacious (about 50 sqm2) and has a king size bed with two rollaway single beds. The deco is not luxurious but it is very warm. Similar to what you would expect in a resort in the Caribbean.

The bathroom is a bit more luxurious with separate areas for the toilette, a double sink and a bathtub and a shower.
The room also has a private balcony to enjoy the beautiful weather in the island. We recommend asking for a room in the second or third floor to have better ocean view.

Grounds
The grounds were immaculate with lots of vegetation and cascades.
The hotel has four pools, including one for kids. Our youngest kid loved the small water slide in the kids’ pool and our eldest son loved all other pools.
It also offers a kids club, tennis, basketball and beach volley courts, a mini golf, a gym, a spa and has direct access to a public beach (all beaches in Spain are public).

Restaurants
The hotel has 4 restaurants: Los Arcos Buffet (where breakfast and buffet dinner is served), La Veranda Pool Bar (near the pool, where you can grab a quick bite while taking a break from the sun), Wok-N-Zen Asian Fusion (Asian restaurant) and El Faro de Antigua (a Spanish food restaurant).
We tried Los Arcos Buffet every morning for breakfast (which was fantastic) and also one night for dinner to celebrate our eldest son’s birthday. Dinner at Los Arcos is not great but it’s a good option if you want to eat in the hotel one night or two. We also tried La Veranda, the pool bar restaurant. The food at La Veranda was good for a pool-side restaurant but the service was hit-and-miss. We tried this restaurant three times but we could only eat twice. The third time we had to leave because after half an hour no one showed up to take our order. In fact, before our trip to Fuerteventura we had read a couple of reviews complaining about the service in restaurants. While we cannot say that the service was bad, it was clear that it had some issues and we were glad that we decided not to take the half board package.
The hotel also offers a lobby piano bar with a terrace and an Irish pub, which was closed during our stay.

A few minor cons.
A couple of negative points, which did not affect our overall experience:
- As mentioned above, the service in the restaurants is not the best. We don’t think the service is bad but there is certainly room for improvement.
- Wifi is very unstable. We were aware of this before arriving at the hotel and, for such reason we decided to buy a sim-card for 20 Euros in the shopping mall near the hotel.
- The corridors look a bit dated and in need for renovation. The hotel seems to have been built back in the 80s/90s and the corridors were never updated.

Bottom Line.
Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort is a very good option to stay in Fuerteventura with very nice rooms, grounds and pools. There are a couple of minor issues for improvement, but if you want to enjoy a wonderful experience in a beautiful island, this is definitely a very good option.
